There’s no getting away from the fact this black satin finish bass from Kala’s UBASS line is very striking to look at, with it’s F-holes and off white binding, Beneath that style is the usual UBASS quality and functionality, with an onboard EQ allowing you to shape the sound off the instrument through an an amp, as well as utilise the onboard tuner.

Acoustically it has enough volume for practising quietly, but you need to use an amp to get the best from it. With those metal strings you get a more contemporary sound, a more electric bass than double bass feel, with a bit more crispness and definition. That said, with the onboard control you can dial down the treble and still get a big, bassy thump if you want it.
