This is the Pono AT tenor ukulele, with satin finish. When I first started dealing in ukuleles, Pono really stood out as offering ukes for those looking to progress beyond the basic level. And, while other manufacturers have now cottoned on to the fact people might want something a bit further up the quality scale, meaning there is far more competition, the solid reputation that Pono built up means they’re still popular today.

The Pono AT has a really nice, smooth satin finish, and some very nice acacia used for the all solid construction. The tone is really well balanced with some nice bass countered by some shiny trebles, making it a nice all rounder (and a bit richer, if less bright than the ATD, its gloss finish sibling from the Pono stable).

The instrument is nicely proportioned and kitted out with quality Grover tuners, a bone nut and saddle and Ko’olau strings. It has a 35mm nut width which is an average measurement, which is perfectly playable for most (including me - as it’s my preference).

All in all it is a uke that plays nicely, looks smart and won’t let you down, at a price just beyond the general ‘intermediate zone’, but well worth the extra in my view.
