Snail have done well with their all solid acacia S60T model - with lots of exotic, flamed acacia and abalone inlays, but this BH-8T model strips things back a little to make an instrument which is very good value in comparison.

Acacia is sometimes a touch muted, but the BH-8T doesn’t suffer from that at all, with a lively, sparkling tone that gives way to the smoothness and richness that you’d typically associate with acacia. When you consider the price, it’s a really pleasing, mature and well balanced sound.

The top is solid acacia, with a gloss finish, paired with laminate acacia back and sides. The wood doesn’t have the very exotic grain that you can get with acacia, but it’s still very pretty - and more plain acacia doesn’t sound inferior to fancy acacia - the main difference other than looks are that it’s more expensive! There’s an attractive inlaid wooden flower motif on the fingerboard, with side dots on the side of the neck so you still know where to put your fingers, plus a simple abalone decoration around the soundhole.

Snail have fitted their own fluorocarbon strings to this model, and I’m a fan of these lively, well sustaining strings - an improvement over the stock D’addario fluorocarbons the rest of their range has featured, if you ask me. Snail’s BH-8T also comes with good quality geared tuners and an included gig bag.

The only downside is that really, the BH-8T comes in at a price where there’s already a lot of competition… but the good news is that it stands up very well to other models that are out there.
