One of the things I like about this Uluru Nehe IIIC tenor ukulele is how much quality you get for a price that isn't always that full with options. You might say that ukulele manufactures have neglected this 'middle ground', between the £2-300 and the elite level ukes at £1,000 plus. Often, to get significantly better than that first price range, you have to spend a lot lot more - which is why this lovely Uluru tenor uke is a great option for those who want to progress and own something more special, but can't afford to break the bank on a posh aNueNue or K Brand.

The combination of a solid Englemann spruce top, coupled with solid ovangkol back and sides gives both a great look (which is elegant, rather than fancy) and a clear and wide-ranging tone, which punches through with the brightness of spruce, and then fills out with a nice richness.

Like so many manufacturers, Uluru have gone with Aquila as their 'stock strings', but for me, they don't bring out the sustain and subtlety that these lovely ukes are capable of, so I replace them with clear fluorocarbon strings. I've experimented a lot as a Uluru owner myself (my main uke is a Uluru IIICX), and this switch, in my opinion, really enriches the sound.

While this Nehe IIIC doesn't feature a great deal in the way of aesthetic extras, the cutaway shape is very well fashioned, and the slotted headstock looks good, as well as boasting very good quality geared tuners. There is subtle and well executed padauk binding (enhanced by a wafter thin layer of maple inlay), and an ovangkol soundhole decoration. The whole thing looks great under an excellent gloss finish, aside from the satin neck, which is also made from ovangkol - with the dark and light streaks extending up the length of the neck.

The Uluru is supplied in a hard case.
