The Uma UK-11SC is a very pretty instrument. However, a laminate ebony concert uke isn’t exactly new to the market, and there are a number of other options out there too. So, what makes this one worth the money?(because, on face value, as it’s more expensive that some rivals - we need to justify the extra…)

Well, often laminate instruments can be a bit muted in tone - while the UK-11SC is quite the opposite. It’s lively, loud and the tone has plenty going on - with some nice depth punctuated by strong trebles. It reminds me a bit of the aNueNue Moon Bird… hear me out! Now, that’s over £1,000 so obviously, a bit better than this! But the way the sound is nicely balanced because of the extremes of warmth and brightness. I’m not sure I’ve explained that very well, but be assured this is a lovely sounding ukulele.

Uma fit their instruments with their own fluorocarbon strings, with sustain well and have a very clear quality, while the uke also has decent geared tuners and a black, branded gig bag too.

Uma’s range are generally 35mm wide at the nut, and this is no different - but as that’s average, most players will find that perfectly comfortable.
