This is the Kala Kala KA-CT-SA-BG, an all solid acacia baritone ukulele from Kala’s contour series. That series features lots of curves and contours, with a smooth comfort edge and a larger bottom bout, delivering in this case a sweet, warm and mellow tone. With the DGBE tuning you’re automatically getting a decent wedge of bassy tones and this is accentuated by the sweet, balanced and rolling tones from the solid acacia. The result is a big voice, but a laid back, bassy and mellow one.

The gloss finished all solid acacia Kala baritone uke has a 38mm nut width and Aquila strings and is supplied in a well padded gig bag (just as well as it’s big bottom won’t fit in a regular hard case). It plays nicely, with a nice balance - as the slotted headstock’s slim profile means it’s not top heavy.

The Kala KA-CT-SA-TG is also a handsome beast too, with a gloss finish and attractive acacia grain. The soundhole decoration is made from maple and rosewood, in an ‘eclispse’ design, which is very attractive - well executed and yet not over the top.

These contour series are modern looking instruments and a welcome return to innovation from Kala, who have been listening to what baritone ukulele players want and not just producing ‘more of the same’.
