Just to make doubly sure you noticed in the title, this is a fretless version of the Kala solid body UBASS, the UBASS-SB-TB-FS. These bass ukuleles are well made, well finished and sound great - with the classic split coil pickup giving a thick, meaty tone.

Actually, I say ‘classic split coil’ and there’ll be plenty of people who play the ukulele out there where that terminology means nothing. Suffice to say for the uninitiated… it works with magnets and the signal to your amp is produced by disturbances in the magetic field. Or for the unitiated AND uninterested… you don’t need any batteries!

If you’ve not played a fretless bass before, you play on the line where the fret would be, as opposed to just behind it. The lack of frets means sliding between notes is easier, and many people (me included) prefer the feel, although to be pefectly in tune you do have to be a little more accurate with your finger positioning than you would be with a fretted version.

This UBASS is supplied with a very good fitted and padded gig. It has tone and volume controls, with the tone providing a nice smooth transition between the softer and more zingy ends of the spectrum - meaning you get plenty of different sounds when you twiddle your knob! It also has two strap buttons fitted as standard. The nut width is 40mm and Kala’s roundwound metal strings are fitted.
