These days there are plenty of bass ukulele models on the market, but Kala is the biggest name in the field and with good reason. They’ve concentrated on the development of their UBASS line for many years (it helps that their CEO is a bass player), and they’ve got better at it, and their models have actually got cheaper too. This ‘solid’ bamboo model is a great example of a bass that sounds great and doesn’t break the bank.

The construction is all bamboo, a sustainable choice with an articulate, slightly brighter tone than many UBASS models. It’s still a bass, so big, deep and rich… but with a little more brightness in the treble strings, if you fancy a bass solo or two! Bamboo, being a grass, isn’t really solid like wood wood be, but it’s a strong, durable and tactile material and it sounds good too.

The onboard EQ has a responsive built-in tuner and performs well through an amp, again with Kala’s expertise in this field, it’s a better pickup than many of the cheaper (sometimes nastier!) alternatives.

It is fitted with Aquila Thunderblack strings, geared tuners and nubone saddle and nut (44mm), and a decent gig bag as well.

One strap button is fitted as standard.
