Hoa Hana is the name chosen for this exclusive joint project between World of Ukes and Southern Ukulele Store. Seeing a lack of options for baritone players who want to push past the intermediate level of quality - we decided to commission our own from Uluru. The model name means 'partnership', which is very appropriate given it the nature of the project!

This all solid baritone has a sitka spruce top, paired with ovangkol on the back and sides. The latter has similar properties to rosewood, giving this a really classic combination of softwood top and hardwood back and sides. The spruce is great quality, with a nice tight grain, and the ovangkol offers some lovely grain patterns and a dark contrast under the gloss finish.

The two tonewoods are separated by maple binding, a material that also binds the ebony fretboard. This has a beautiul shaped end where it meets the soundhole, which features an ovangkol rosette. The uke is fitted with quality enclosed geared tuners with wooden buttons. The bone compensated saddle sits in a smooth, unfussy ebony bridge, and the 35mm nut is combined with quite a shallow neck profile which I find particularly playable.

You can select to have yours strung Living Water clear fluorocarbon strings, with GCEA (low G) tuning. or DGBE with D’addario strings. The former makes them accessible to players of regular ukes, with the low G making the most of the larger baritone body, to deliver a deep, rolling tone. It is perfectly adept with DGBE tuning also (which Southern Ukulele Store have opted for), and I can string them that way too. You can select the tuning you require when ordering via the dropdown options.

With spruce providing a little extra punch, this Hoa Hana baritone from Uluru is great for picking and chord melody, while always keeping a rich wash of depth from the baritone body. It is really pleasing to listen to, and play.
