aNueNue AKK2 All Solid Koa Concert Ukulele
Relaunched late in 2020, the new aNueNue AKK2 concert ukulele is an all solid Hawaiian koa instrument, modelled on the Taiwanese firm’s popular AMM2 model (that one is mahogany and features the same slightly wider bottom bout we see here).
The previous incarnation of the AKK2 used very high grade koa, while this new version opts for AA grade - which has the same tonal qualities, but is a little more plain in the visual stakes. This is a canny move in my opinion, as it brings an all solid koa instrument into the range of more budgets. As it is something people often aspire to own, that should guarantee its popularity.
The sound is rich and bright, with a lovely chime and bags of sustain. It’s a lively instrument, with lots of charm and a lot of volume (especially considering koa isn’t always the loudest). This is aided by the aNueNue black water strings, which have a nice zip to them.
The uke has a nicely crafted slotted headstock, nice geared tuners, a rosewood fingerboard and bridge, gloss finish, hardwood binding and an abalone soundhole rosette. And the AKK2 concert comes with a fantastic gig bag which offers great projection. This concert has a 36mm nut width and gently radiused frets which help with barre chords.
