This LoPrinzi Model B ukulele is a super concert - so that’s a concert ukulele body with a tenor neck. Technically that makes it a small body tenor, rather than a concert - but the naming convention is set as ‘super concert’ so in with the concert ukuleles it goes, slightly contrary to logic as it is the scale length that denotes the size, not the dimensions of the body. But anyway…

I was looking in my stock system when preparing to write this description and there are plenty of old listings there for LoPrinzi ukuleles that have sold. But, they’re not the fastest sellers usually. In all honesty, if I had my business head on, I’d be better off investing the money in things that sell more rapidly. But life is not all about money and if I can champion better appreciation of this maker, then I am all for it. I also know that the majority of those ‘sold out’ listings came from customer purchases in store, rather than online. When customers get their hands on them, then they see what I see - brilliant ukuleles, handmade in the USA, at comparatively good prices given they are luthier made in America.

That luthier is Donna LoPrinzi, who operates in Florida - part of a family of stringed instrument makers including her father Augustino, who created a great reputation, which his daughter has maintained through her impeccable builds.

This ukulele is made from all solid maple, a wood which is both bright and soft-sounding. I have used the analogy before that it’s like a boxer’s glove - powerful but with a soft edge. The sound is warm and lustrous, but sweet and delicate at the same time. It’s a delight to play - Donna knows her set up as well as, if not better than most luthiers. And it is fitted with Gotoh UPT geared tuners which are top of the line as well.

At the bottom of the page are assorted extras that can be added to your basket, like strap buttons or a low G. In terms of cases, this would go into a tenor one - which would fit, but have a little extra length on account of the non standard shape (again, this is a concert sized uke body with a tenor neck).
