This is a custom uke from Millar, made by their head luthier. This concert is constructed from all solid tiger maple, a particularly attractive set of wood, with lovely flaming. Some tidy abalone details in the binding and soundhole decoration set the wood off nicely, and the gloss finish accentuates the exotic grain.

This model is a concert ukulele, supplied with Worth Clear strings, with an unwound low G as standard. This highlights the natural softness of the maple, with a rich, dreamy tone being produced - but still with a healthy dose of treble clarity on the higher strings, to ensure it doesn’t become overly warm.

Millar’s ukuleles are generally made with a 35mm nut width and they’ve again gone for that standard neck size here, with a bone nut and saddle and an ebony fingerboard. They’ve used rear-facing Der Jung geared tuners too, which are effective, lightweight and very neat.

Made in their facility in Taiwan, this family firm really care about what they make. More so than money! At the time this arrived, I had been asking about a model (the SP-210LL) that I’d run out of and could sell plenty of. But instead, they got excited about acquiring the set of maple used in this concert, and made this instead! Slightly frustrating, but it displays their love of making beautiful instruments, as opposed to making lots of money!
