Millar TM-240 All Solid Mahogany Concert Ukulele
This Taiwanese made Millar TM-240 has classic looks, all solid mahogany construction and simple, but neat, satin finish. It's is modelled on an early Martin and does a great job of replicating that with a classic, warm tone, punctuated with some sparkling trebles.
It might not look particularly sexy but the quality of sound is so impressive given the price. The price is too low. Don't get me wrong, I need to sell ukuleles and I need to do so at a profit... but I really feel I could put this on at £100 more and it would still be good value. A brilliant 'sound for the pound' ratio with the Millar TM-240.
It is fitted with D'addario black nylon strings, which accentuate the chocolatey warmth, but still give enough in the treble zone to pick out some nice trebles and melodies in the mix.
The uke is lightly made, which makes it resonant, and the 35mm nut feels 'normal' and unchallenging to play. There are good quality geared tuners too.
In summary, it is low on thrills in the looks department, but exceeds every expectation for sound at this sort of price level.
There’s a video demo of the Millar TM-240 concert ukulele if you click additional information below. One with me playing it, and another featuring Matt Hicks.
