Ohana CK-60CG All Solid Mahogany Concert Ukulele
The Ohana CK-60CG’s mahogany body has been elevated by some well executed inlays in abalone, either side of the soundhole. These floral patterns will divide opinion, based on whether you love all things sparkly, or prefer things nice and plan – but if you fall into the former category, these inlays are very well done. The soft cutaway shape is attractive, as is the tapered end of the fretboard, while a gloss finish and rosewood binding add a little more flourish.
Mahogany is known for its warm tonal properties, and that certainly comes to the fore in this example, the Ohana CK-60C. There is a pleasant mellow nature but that is punctuated by precise trebles, which come together in an attractive blend. This concert has impressive volume too, with that volume maintained well up the neck also.
All solid mahogany is used for the back, sides and top of the CK-60CG. Worth Brown fluorocarbon strings are fitted, which seems a very good fit for this uke. When I first picked it up and tuned it, while not a particular tuner snob, I did think to myself ‘ooh, are these Grovers?’ They felt lovely and smooth and indeed, my assumption was correct.
The striking abalone of Ohana’s CK-60CG could almost define this ukulele, but in reality, it could be seen as a distraction for what is a well-priced, nice-to-play ukulele with an impressive sound. If you like that decoration, you’ll not be disappointed by the musical instrument underneath it.
