VTAB EL-55D Concert Ukulele with Gig Bag
I'd been perfectly happy with the ukuleles I stock at the price point of this VTAB EL-55D concert uke - so hadn't taken the plunge. But, if you've ever looked at the brilliant Got A Ukulele website and been tempted into something you didn't need, then you'll know what happened with me! Scoring 9 out of 10, with 9.5 out of 10 for value, and trusting the opinions on the site as I do, I was sold.
What arrived was certainly impressive for the price. The VTAB EL-55D concert is fairly plain, but not bad looking, and the colouring, with a stain added to the laminate mahogany body giving a little twist on the usual 'mahogany brown budget uke' look. The closed geared tuners are unremarkable in the fact they work as they should - which of course should be the case, and there are two strap buttons fitted, fret position markers and fluorcarbon strings. (Previously these were strung with Aquila, and in my view, the change is an upgrade!)
On to the sound. I like it. But boy is it difficult to describe! It is quite punchy, but with a warm, soft edge to the sound. As I'm lifting this straight from Got A Ukulele, I'll give credit it where it is due for the perfect term, 'bouncy'. It has a really strong bass response. It is a little clipped, in that the sustain isn't above average, but for the price it is, it's very impressive and different.

There's even a reasonable gig bag included. Nothing special, but not bad at all. Below, in additional information, you can watch a video demo of the VTAB EL-55D concert ukulele.
