This was a one off ukulele, which has now been sold.

This ukulele, made on Vancouver Island by Martin Beck, is a really remarkable thing. The Canadian luthier has decades of experience making fine quality instruments, and this concert has a list of features as long as your arm. But... first things first - the sound. The depth and warmth from this instrument (even putting to one side the fact it has a low G fitted) is incredible, yet it never overpowers the crispness of the trebles. Some ukuleles you can feel resonating in your chest as you play but this one is incredible... it almost pulses - you can feel your chest being massaged by sound. I might not have described that perfectly, but trust me, it is very very nice.

The solid top of this Martin Beck concert is AAA grade Canadian red cedar, with the back and sides made from solid mahogany. This wood can be quite plain in general but this is AAA grade ribbon grain mahogany and looks lovely with its paler hues and dark streaks. The top, sides and back are punctuated with bloodwood binding and little touches like the Claro ebony tail graft and head plate add great finishing touches.

Showing off the skills of this luthier in the decorative department is the stunning asymmetric ebony soundhole decoration is enough to take your breath away.

The neck is mahogany, reinforced with carbon fibre, with a neck width of 35mm. This feels natural with this relatively compact concert size body, particularly when coupled with the super low, easy playing action. It is really playable indeed. It is fitted with Worth clears with D’addario low G, which brings out those deep tones beautifully, and Gotoh 510 Super Mini tuners - Japanese precision tuners that cost over £100 a set on their own… seriously good.
