Uluru Nehe II All Solid Concert Ukulele
Due to price increases that are too steep, this model is no longer available from World of Ukes
This Uluru Nehe II concert ukulele is a great option for a fine-sounding ukulele at a price level which isn't stacked with options. Too often, players who want to progress from a ukulele at the £2/300 level have had to shell out a great deal more to get a significant improvement, but this lovely Uluru concert uke gives a great sound at a price point that, while not keep, isn't comparable to K-brands and top level aNueNue models.
The combination of a solid Englemann spruce top, coupled with solid ovangkol back and sides gives both a great look (which is elegant, rather than fancy) and a clear and wide-ranging tone, which punches through with the brightness of spruce, and then fills out with a nice richness.
These tonal qualities are improved, in my opinion, with a change from Aquila strings to clear fluorocarbons, which I take care of here. This I feel delivers more sustain in particular, and gives a richer, more melodic tone. In short, I think they get the best out of a uke that can really perform well with the right strings.
There are very good quality gold coloured greared tuners, which have ovangkol buttons to match the back and sides, and the satin finished ovangkol neck (the rest of the uke has a fantastic gloss finish). There's a very pretty mother of pearl inlaid flower motif on the headstock too, as well as padauk binding and a dark hardwood soundhole rosette.
Two video demos of the Uluru Nehe II are available if you click additional info below, a quick 60 second sample and a more expansive demo too.
