This is a small scale ukulele, a sopranino uke, from Japanese company Kiwaya. This is part of their Chinese-made student series, which offers more economical choices, including this pineapple body shape instrument.

Kiwaya have long been famous for their lightweight, responsive laminate ukes, and this mahogany sopranino displays a liveliness that many a laminate ukulele would be envious of. It produces an impressive, bright tone, with much more volume than the small body would suggest. With the pineapple body, there’s a bit more fullness then a standard sopranino uke, but certainly, it’s character is predominantly bright, bubbly and zesty in tone.

Kiwaya’s own KFC fluorocarbon strings are fitted, as are reliable geared tuners. The U-TRIP-02 sopranino is also supplied in a basic gig bag.
