This is a real treat, a beautiful, handmade soprano ukulele from Millar in Taiwan. Made by the head luthier, it combines great looks, premium materials and a bit of Millar magic to make a superb, sweet-sound, rich and resonant ukulele.

The tone is at once gentle and sweet, dynamic and smooth. It’s going everything going for it. It’s bright and cheerful sounding, but mature and interesting - anything but one-dimensional. It’s clearly been made with a lot of skill and the sound quality is there to demonstrate that craft.

The tightly grained spruce is matched with dark chocolate ebony on the back and sides, separated by mahogany binding, with a generous abalone soundhole decoration. The ebony faceplate looks classy and the rear-facing tuners - which are lightweight and work beautifully with their internal gears, just ‘fit’ in terms of visual ‘classiness’.

With Worth Brown strings and pretty ebony bridge pins - well thought out choices - a gloss finish and a standard 35mm nut width, this custom Millar is a beauty on the eye and the ear.
