USED Maestro UT-MR All Solid Spruce & Rosewood Tenor Ukulele

Sale Price:£699.00 Original Price:£1,099.00

This a used ukulele in generally good condition. It does have some scratches on the back (perhaps from a belt, or similar). These haven't broken the finish but they are visible. The price is extra-keen as a result. I struggled to photograph them accurately. They're nothing to worry about, but just wanted to point out they were there.

The Maestro UT-MR is handmade in Singapore, a tenor ukulele made from all solid German spruce and Madagascan rosewood. And what a thing of beauty it is. Tight grained European pale spruce and rich, chocolate-brown rosewood is such a classic combination tonally, that the contrast seems a natural visual pairing too. With a gloss finish accentuating the rosewood grain and pattern too, this tenor uke really looks the part.

With a 37mm nut, a little above average, the neck feels spacious - and you’ll want to explore the neck as the UT-MR has plenty of volume, with the drop off in volume up the neck being quite minimal - it really sings at the upper end of the neck. When strummed, there’s a lovely chime, and when picked, individual notes stand out with lovely clarity. The sustain is extremely impressive, with the notes ringing out and delivered directly to your ear via the side sound port. While the spruce does deliver crisp trebles as you’d expect, this is tempered and balanced by a fine bass response too. It packs a punch at both ends of the sonic spectrum.

Hozen, the master luthier at Maestro not only does a great job of selecting the tonewoods - there’s lots of visual appeal with the brand too. This UT-MR has rosewood binding and a rosewood bevelled comfort edge, and a pretty mother of pearl and padauk soundhole decoration. This pair of materials is featured in the intricate koi carp inlays on the ebony fingerboard too - which is flanked by a rosewood binding up the neck, with nice clear position markers.

If you want something with power and punch, but a sound that still delivers on richness and bass response, this Maestro UT-MR is a really fine example to consider.

The Maestro series of ukuleles are all provided with a brown, wood shell, quality hard case.
