Yes, the U3 is a tenor ukulele from aNueNue at a tenth of the price of their Moon Bird marquee model. And while, of course, it’s not going to reach the heady heights of that most desirable uke, the company have cleverly taken some aspects of their top end models and introduced them to their affordable Hawaiian Dream series. The result is a laminate mahogany instrument, at a very basic price, where the only other thing basic about it are the rather plain looks. The sound, at this price, is extremely impressive.

The aNueNue U3 tenor ukulele has a satin finish, good quality geared tuners, rosewood fingerboard and bridge, and aNueNue Clear Water fluorocarbon strings. The latter add a bit of pep to the trebles, while the larger bottom bout (fat bottomed ukes, they make the rockin’ world go round) adds a depth that results in a sound that’s more akin to solid mahogany than to a generic laminate.

The 36mm but width, using the same neck profile as their celebrate top end lines, will feel comfortable to most players, and the instrument is, all in all, a comfortable, familiar playing experience.
