Baton Rouge UTAS-T All Solid Spruce and Ash Tenor Ukulele
The Baton Rouge UTAS-T is a ridiculous value instrument, with all solid construction at a tiny price compared to most ukes of a similar specification. This one has a solid German spruce top and solid ash back and sides, with a satin finish. Although this tenor uke is available for the price where most instruments are all laminate, the makers haven’t skimped on decoration either, with abalone soundhole decoration and madple binding, together with half moon fret markers on the eucalyptus fingerboard.
The UTAS-T from Baton Rouge has a 37mm nut width, geared tuners and a set of Aquila strings. The tone is quite meaty, with a reasonable ‘oomph’ in the bass, with a strong burst of projection and brightness. This is one of a number of ukes from Baton Rouge’s rECOtimber range, and it can be hard to choose between them. There are subtle difference between the different models but as they’re all solid spruce tops (as I write this), those variations aren’t immense. So it’s one where you can legitmately choose based on your preference on looks for the back and sides. Not the normal way to choose a ukulele, but at this price, you can’t really go wrong!
There’s a strap button fitted already, but you can add other options, like a gig bag, easily down at the bottom of this page.
