This is the tenor electro version of the solid myrtle top Lu’au ukulele from Breedlove, with a built in preamp with tone and volume controls, in-built tuner and undersaddle pickup for amplification.

Myrtle isn’t something you see every day, but it is certainly gorgeous, with lovely patterns and flaming, set off by sleek black binding and a pleasingly different rosewood bridge. The headstock shape is unique too and with a gloss finish, all of these things combine to make one classy, attractive tenor electro ukulele.

With the uke plugged into an amp, the tone is clean and rich, and acoustically, it is super smooth sounding, with subtle harmonics and a nice rich and mellow body, with some sparking trebles too. I would admit to not being the biggest fan of Aquila strings on more expensive instruments - but having tried it, I’d urge you to do the same, as it really sounds different and really quite lovely.

The nut width is an average 35mm, and with the generous string spacing it feels comfortable, with the set-up out of the box being impressive, even before it goes through my workshop.
