Breedlove Lu'au Solid Myrtle Top Tenor Ukulele
One of these Breedlove Lu'au tenor ukuleles arrived for a special order, the first I'd had chance to look at. Coming in at a busy time, I hadn't thought of stocking them just yet - for no other reason than time constraints. And then I played the one that had arrived and was straight on the phone ordering a couple more. What a lovely ukulele this is.
The solid myrtle top looks lovely, with a really different hue and nice patterning. Sometimes people are a little hesitant about purchasing light coloured ukes, but this one has a really nice colouring. Light enough to be different but not (I wouldn't have thought) so light as to put anyone one. The back and sides are laminate, but just as pretty under the gloss finish.
The nut is 35mm, the size I play myself, so I can't complaint there, and it nice to play. It is equipped with Aquila strings which I usually find a little hard on the fingers but I 'tested' the first one of these for some time and really enjoyed myself, getting lost in some music and certainly not noticing any sore fingers!
The sound is really, really good. It is so smooth, with an undercurrent of nice warmth, which the brightness of those Aquilas just punches through enough for a lovely balance. I am very impressed.
Comes in a decent gig bag too.
