Kai KTI-30 Mango Tenor Ukulele and Gig Bag
How do Kai make a ukulele like the KTI-30 tenor so good for this price? It sounds better than it should, looks striking with that individually patterned laminate mango body, and even comes with a really good gig bag that would set you back £20 on its own (and you’d not feel short-changed for that either).
With the side soundport, you get a great, direct blast of the well balanced, round-edged tone straight to your ears when you’re playing. There’s some nice brightness to the sound, but is has power and mellow tones into the bargain too. There are other models in this series, and in theory as laminate ukes they should sound the same, but I certainly get a sweeter, more mellow tone with the KTI-30.
It has nice, slick-playing strings, which I suspect are D’addario Titaniums, and reliable geared tuners. Overall it looks nice too with its satin finish, and a nice tidy build. I have played ukuleles at £250 that don’t sound as good as this, it is really impressive. For someone who has played some brilliant, high end ukes, for me to get this excited about something towards the lower end of the market must tell you something!
Natural variations in the wood mean the photos are a representative of one example. You can get in touch to get photos of the actual one you’d be sent if you like.
