Kaka KUT-28D Solid Top Tenor Ukulele, by Enya
Kaka and Enya are two brand names produced by the same company, Enya. The latter is more commonly known in the UK, but they’re one and the same. This one is a very good value solid spruce top instrument, with a flourish of finishing touches, including an abalone soundhole rosette and faux tortoiseshell binding.
The back and sides of the KUT-28D are laminate mahogany, with richlite used for the nicely shaped bridge and smooth fingerboard. It is fitted with fluorocarbon strings and two strap buttons, and supplied with a very nice black gig bag too.
I think I might be a bit of an old grump these days. This is an excellent value instrument, with great spec and a strong, bright and well-projected tone. But Enya’s marketing engine is, for me a bit OTT, with paid YouTube reviews and instagram posts aplenty. To be honest, it all tries a bit too hard, and that’s not necessary as it’s a nice instrument at an excellent price. Just one more bit of info, the KUT-28D has a standard 35mm nut width.
