LoPrinzi Model C All Solid Mahogany Sunburst Tenor Ukulele
This is a handmade tenor ukulele from Donna LoPrinzi, made in Florida in the USA. I’ve said Florida in the USA and that’s pretty obvious! But I am getting revenge for all those American films where they show a montage of Big Ben and Buckingham Palace and then capition it with ‘London, England’. Anyway, I digress. As I was saying, this is a luthier made tenor ukulele, built using high grade solid mahogany on top back and sides. This is given a subtle, attractive sunburst and satin finish.
It’s a lightweight, tactile instrument that is very nice to play (Donna does a lot of work on the set up too, leaving me with little to do… which is nice!). It has a 35mm but width and good quality Grover geared tuners.
The sound is interesting, it is at once sweet, with a nice chiming quality, but you can feel a some throaty ‘oomph’ from that solid mahogany too. This makes it really versatile, with strong trebles that really sing out, together with a richness that sounds really good when strumming.
Like everything, in recent years LoPrinzi ukuleles have increased in price but at least in this case, that increase is for one woman to help put (more expensive) food on the table - which seems a bit nicer then when those price rises occur with giant corporations!
