Singer RT5R-CS All Solid Spruce and Rosewood Tenor Ukulele by aNueNue
The Singer RT5R-CS has a gorgeous cherry sunburst, going from the natural tones of the spruce top to a deep cherry red. This is impeccably done and glows under a flawless gloss finish. It looks amazing. But it’s vital that those looks are matched by the tone, and for me this is so gorgeous to listen to that it almost puts the looks into shade.
Singer ukuleles are a new line of instruments made by aNueNue, employing their expertise making high-end ukuleles and adding the twist of a more vintage look. They’ve also voiced these ukes differently to their regular models, changing the bracing and body size to deliver a slightly tighter, more focussed tone that delivers a vintage ‘bark’ when strummed. However, key traits cross over from aNueNue ukes including a beautiful chiming effect, super sustain and a really fine balance of big, deep basses and clear, bell-like highs. Super stuff.
The Singer RT5R-CS has a solid Swiss spruce top, paired with solid rosewood back and sides. The nut width is 37mm, giving plenty of room to explore the (slightly radiussed, for comfort) fretboard. This tenor has been fitted with aNueNue’s Black Water fluorocarbon strings and features the excellent Gotoh UPT rear facing tuners, which are light and very effective as the feature gears (while looking like friction pegs).
Sometimes, playing very very nice ukes regularly as I do, you wonder how a company can tease out ‘more’. How they can go where they’ve not gone before. However, it shows here that aNueNue aren’t resting on their laurels and they’ve made a truly stunning ukulele.
