Uma Baby T-EQ Electro Tenor Small Body Tenor / Super Concert Ukulele
The first thing to do with the Uma Baby T-EQ, is define what it is. The scale length is the same as tenor ukulele, and the body is the same size as a concert ukulele. So it’s a long neck concert, super concert, or small body tenor. Why? Well, why not I suppose. But also, it has the defined tone of a concert, with the flexibility of a longer neck. That neck is fairly standard at 35mm (this info is in contrast to other information out there, but they are 35mm, certainly now).
This is the electro version of the Baby T ukulele, with a serviceable built in pre-amp and pickup system, with tone, volume control and a built in tuner. This is a similar type on so many ukuleles, reliable, with a good amplified tone, without breaking the bank.
The Baby T-EQ feels great to play, with a really low action at the nut in particular making it stand out. The body is a satin-finish, very attractive laminate acacia, on a uke fitted with light feeling clear fluorocarbon strings. It also features a bevelled comfort edge, to stop you getting a red mark on your arm when you play, and good quality geared tuners. Oh, and a decent gig bag.
The sound is quite crisp sounding, with good chiming qualities, but certainly not devoid of richness either. My wife chose one of these so there’s one at home, and I have to say it sounds so much better than you’d expect at this price. Yes, it’s a laminate instrument, but it’s certainly a good one!
There’s an acoustic video demo if you click additional information below, comparing the Uma Baby T-EQ with an Epiphone Les Paul ukulele.
