The Uma UK-20ST

is an incredibly priced instrument, well finished, good specification and an excellent one at a price where a solid top would be expected, not an all solid mahogany body. It’s nicely made and has a gloss finish, which is well done - and comes with a good quality gig bag too. It’s value upon value with this one!

The tone is very strong, with a bit of mahogany warmth in the mix, alongside a real zip in the trebles from the fitted fluorocarbon strings. It’s much more balanced across the board than many mahogany made ukes - although if that traditional warmth is what you’re after, then this isn’t the instrument for you. Instead, it is lively, loud and while it still has that mahogany richness, there’s more brightness to balance it out too. A versatile and find sounding uke, and for this price a bargain too. It IS mahogany, but it’s more chimey and brighter than you might expect.

The UK-20ST features a slotted headstock and smooth-turning chrome geared tuners. The neck is 38mm at the nut - a little more spacious than average, but very playable.

At this sort of price there is a lot of competition out there, but this is a really strong contender for my ‘best uke around £200’ award (not that there is such an award, but if there was, this would be in with a strong shout!)
